Outdoor Exhibits – On the Reno County Museum grounds are a Hutchinson and
Northern Railroad electric locomotive switch engine, currently undergoing
restoration. A Union Pacific Railroad caboose also offers a glimpse into the
life of those trackmen who rode the rails decades ago. The nearby Siegrist
Claim House, built in 1876 by a Reno County homesteader, was relocated to the
museum grounds in 1998 to save it from demolition during a highway construction
project. The small frontier pioneer home, now restored, was granted an Award of
Excellence for preservation by the Kansas Museums Association. A traditional
farmstead windmill and WPA-constructed outhouse are nearby.
Meeting Facilities – The Houston Whiteside
Conference Room in the museum offers comfortable meeting space for groups of up
to 75 people. The room can accomodate catered meals, and is ideal for
professional meetings or casual social affairs. A fee is charged for use of the
room, and reservations may be placed by contacting the museum staff.
Gift
Shop – The museum gift shop is located at the main entrance, and offers a
wide variety of souvenirs, Kansas-made products, books on local and regional
history, and gifts for children and adults. Gift shop proceeds go directly to
museum operations. |
