The
museum’s Education Department staff conducts on-site and off-site seminars and
outreach programs for thousands of area school children each year. Specialized
programs are tailored to the interests and learning abilities of children, from
kindergarten to high school, in cooperation with school personnel. Programs can
occur in the school classroom or at the museum. Some of our educational
services include:
-
More than a dozen
specialty programs, utilizing historic artifacts, ranging from “Learning in
Kansas: One-Room Schools” and “The People of Reno County: Settlers From Many
Lands” to Reno County History: A slide Presentation.”
-
“History Comes
Alive,” featuring historic characters in period costume.
-
An on-site guided
tour of the 1876 Siegist Claim House on the museum grounds, with sessions on
19th century immigration, cultural heritage of Kansas settlers,
preservation of historic buildings, and the domestic lifestyle of the
frontier.
-
KidsKraft, a monthly
on-site offering for pre-school and elementary kids, with emphasis on fun-time
artistic creativity.
